HIV/AIDS has created a humanitarian and development crisis of unprecedented scale. More than 15 million children under the age of 17, most of them in sub-Saharan Africa, have lost one or both parents to AIDS. In addition, millions more children either have HIV or live with family members who have HIV. Some children are required to care for these family members. Many children lack food, clothing, shelter, health care, education, and parental guidance, due to HIV/AIDS made part of their lives.
The highest priority of the Apostles of Jesus AIDS Ministry is to care for these children. The Apostles of Jesus Missionaries strive to provide:
- Basic needs such as safe water, nutrition, clothing and shelter
- Family and community resources
- Education (both academic and wellness education)
- Psychological support, including grief counseling
- Life skills and vocational training
- A comprehensive health program including regular check-ups, immunizations, medicine and emergency care
- Hope, faith, love and a future The Apostles of Jesus AIDS/HIV Center is located in the Ngong area of Kenya and currently supports over 200 children.
STARVATION REALLY HAPPENS!
In rural areas of Uganda children face the possibility of starvation every day. Lima Farm, a ministry of the Apostles of Jesus, is cultivating a cure for extreme hunger.
At Lima Farm, Reverend Anacletus Mugabe, not only feeds the children and their families that come to the farm in search of food and clean water, but he provides a future free of hunger.
Fr. Mugabe and the Apostles of Jesus recently purchased cows, which provide free milk to suffering children. In addition to growing food to feed impoverished communities (as well as two schools!), he encourages parents to attend workshops where he teaches them about nutrition and how to grow a variety of food at their own homes and villages. Upon completion of the workshops, he gives each family seedlings to take home, then follows up with them over the next few months, to be certain the children are no longer facing starvation and the gardens are flourishing.

For many suppressed by poverty and accessibility, education is only a dream. But without an education, these young people are destined to remain impoverished. The Apostles of Jesus Missionaries are opening the opening the doors to schools, technical and life skills training, health education, seminaries, and other programs designed as a key to self-reliance and citizenship. To date, the Apostles have established nine schools throughout East Africa, especially in rural areas where accessibility is a major issue.
Star High School, located in Tanzania, opened its doors earlier this year to more students than anticipated. Since, these children have excelled in science, mathematics, English, and so much more!
